Club Information

The objective of the BC United Soccer Association is to promote Soccer through the establishment of a competitive travel team program by:

  1. Developing youth from the local area and surrounding towns to include areas not represented by other travel team programs
  2. To encourage a competent staff of adult volunteers (coaches, referees, board members, etc.)
  3. To promote and encourage single-age groups at every level as established by FIFA Guidelines so to promote a program suited to individual needs.
  4. To promote sportsmanship among players, coaches, volunteers and parents.

The BC United Soccer Association is constantly in need of volunteers to act as coaches, team parents, board members; or to help with fund raisers, field maintenance and player registrations. Anyone interested in assisting with the youth soccer program in any area should contact one of the Club Officers listed herein or fill out a volunteer form.

This website is the online version of the BC United Soccer Association and has been prepared to provide information related to teams, officers, club by-laws, and the basic rules of soccer.

Board Minutes
Dear BC United Families,

Each year a budget is put in place for the running of the BC United Soccer Organization. Our budget for calendar year 2005 is $86,600. BC United is unique as we own our own soccer complex. Cost associated with the soccer complex accounts for approximately 68% of our budget, followed by club expenses at 19% and player/coaching development at 13%. To generate income, we rent our fields out to other organizations, run tournaments, hold soccer camps, volunteer at the BC Open and seek local business advertisements. The BC United board voted to do away with mandatory club fundraisers and in its place assess each family $100 per year. The family club fee is approximately 40% of the income of the club. The BC board voted on the following policy for determining the family club fee: If a player is rostered anytime from September 1st though March 31st, their family is assessed a $50 club fee. If a player is rostered anytime from April 1st through August 31st, their family is assessed a $50 club fee. The total club fee is $100 for a player who is rostered for the whole year. The fee is taken from the youngest siblings team account.

In addition to the family club fee membership fees are due at the time of try-outs. Our membership fee is $50.00. Participants that are not selected will be provided a full refund. Normally throughout the year each family has the option of participating in fundraisers offered through the club or by individual teams to cover all or part of the costs of playing travel soccer. These fundraisers are for the sole purpose of offsetting the cost to play travel soccer for those people who choose to participate.

The 2005 budget is posted on this page of this website for anyone to see.

BC United Uniform Policy: Starting in Fall of 2004, all BC United Teams are REQUIRED to use the new uniform voted on last year by all the teams. This uniform is a white shirt with gold/black stripes on the sleeves and black shorts with gold/white stripes. This is the primary uniform and MUST be worn at all games when there is not a conflict with the team you are playing. The alternate shirt can be gold, black or gray and is only worn when there is a conflict with the primary shirt.

It is the responsibility of every coach and board member to enforce the policies of BC United. This is one policy that everyone needs to enforce to be fair to everyone. A vote was taken last year to choose the new uniform. The current uniform was choosen. Yes, there are some that don't like it, but with a democratic vote, there are gong to be some that lose out and they must go with the majority.

So please, if your team is purchasing new uniforms please invest in the new club uniform. It will only save your team money in the long run. The grace period for wearing a gold shirt and black shorts is up after this year.

The "50 Mile Rule" - - From the NCAA Division I Manual

Operating Bylaws

13.12.2.3 Local Sports Clubs. In sports other than basketball, an institution’s coach may be involved as a participant or in instructional or coaching activities in the same sport for a local sports club or organization located in the institution’s home community, provided all prospects participating in said activities are legal residents of the area (within a 50-mile radius of the institution). In all sports, an institution’s coach may be involved as a participant or in instructional or coaching activities in a sport other than the coach’s sport for a local sports club or organization located in the institution’s home community, provided all prospects participating in said activities are legal residents of the area (within a 50-mile radius of the institution). Further, in club teams involving multiple teams or multiple sports, the 50-mile radius is applicable only to the team with which the institution’s coach is involved; however, it is not permissible for the coach to assign a prospect who lives outside the 50-mile area to another coach of the club. A coach also may be involved in activities with individuals who are not of prospect age (i.e., before the ninth grade), regardless of where such individuals reside. (In women’s volleyball, see Bylaw 13.1.8.8 for regulations relating to a coach’s involvement with a local sports club and the permissible number of evaluation days.) ( Revised : 1/10/90, 1/16/93, 9/6/00, 4/25/02 effective 8/1/02)
